Mindful Moments with Molly Gene

Hey Yogis! Watch the Mindful Moments video with Molly Gene and follow along with her guided meditation outside in nature. Write about your experience in your coursework folder.

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully in the present moment, as you become the observer of your own thoughts and emotions, without judgment or analysis. It is as if you are floating above yourself looking down and saying “Ah ha! I see you sitting there in meditation. I see that there are sensations of anxiety, or depression, or excitement, or peace. Etc. Isn’t that interesting.” And then you come back to your breath and the physical sensations in the body. You start to watch how these feelings ebb and flow. You start to see how these sensations are in a constant state of change.

Imagine that you are laying down in the grass, looking up at the sky. You watch clouds float by and change shape. You see an airplane flying by and later a flock of birds fly overhead. The sky represents your consciousness. It is always there. It has no opinion. It just is. The clouds and all the other things flying in and out of your consciousness are your thoughts. When you are having mindful moments, you are like the sky, allowing all these things to flow through you.

Coursework:

Your breath is the vehicle to mindfulness. Do this 10 minute cooling breath meditation and write about your experience. How did these two exercises help you cultivate presence? How can you incorporate more mindful moments into your life? What are some things that are keeping you distracted and draining you energetically? What can you remove to create more space for what you really need?
